We are moving on to WORMS! We started off by looking at a type of earthworm known as the redworm. We looked at it's parts and learned that worms don't have eyes! They use their other senses to help them move. We also observed how they move and saw what happens when something is blocking their path. We noticed that worms move from both their "head" and their "tail" end. We also noticed that they are excellent climbers! |

Most typically known as a Rollie Pollie or Pill bug perhaps, these Isopods have joined our class and are allowing us to learn even more about animal parts and behaviors. We did some observations, scientific diagrams, and some sorting to find out which isopods were Pillbugs and which were Sowbugs. On Friday we made some videos to teach people the difference between pillbugs and sowbugs on our seesaw accounts! Check them out :)
Animals 2x2: FISH!We learned the difference between and illustration and a scientific diagram by simply drawing a fish to show someone who hadn't seen one before and then the next day drawing a fish like a scientist and labeling all of it's parts. Once we knew about all of the fish's structures or parts, we learned about the functions of those parts. We continued to dive into what we think we know about Goldfish and what we still want to know. we spent a lot of time observing our goldfish, noticing how they behaved when we added food and Elodea to their tanks. To get the kids to start thinking about how external things change behavior, I did a little experiment. We put a big "x" of tape on the door before they came into school. When they walked in, we watched to see what they would do. Would they stop, go under it, break it? I soon noticed a group of kids standing outside the door, not sure what to do. Soon enough, kids started ducking under the tape and going inside. Our next question became, are the fish going to act the same way when new items are added to the tank? We made predictions and recorded our observations with pictures and words.
