Earlier in the week we talked about all the different things that people can make out of wood! I showed them pictures of the shed (not quite done yet) that my husband and I made out of wood and explained to them what all the parts were for and how we joined the pieces together. If only kindergarteners could take a field trip to my house and see all of this building in action :) From my own home projects, I am realizing what great skills come from being able to build your own things and understand what goes into building your home/apartment. I think we have a few future engineers and construction builders in our kindergarten group, but these are skills that everyone should know! I am hoping that I have sparked an interest for them to continue to learn more. If I have, I think a trip to the lumberyard or home depot would just be the coolest! | |
While I can't send home a wood project quite to this magnitude, we did get a chance to design and build our own wooden boat! The first day was spent looking at other boats as models, sketching out our idea, and creating a materials list. Once that was complete, we were off building. Some of us were a little impatient with the wood glue and decided to use tape to hold their pieces instead. At the end of the week, we tested our boats out to see if they could float!
