What does it mean to be an AVID reader? To me, it's taking charge of your reading and doing more of what YOU need. We started a new schedule for reading workshop where students have more choice in how they are strengthening their reading muscles. For some of us being an avid reader means we need more practice playing games with letters and moving them around to make words, others need MORE TIME reading books we love in our book bags and on EPIC!, and others need to be talking about the books that they are reading (making connections from book to book, acting out the story, ect). The beauty is we all need everything and we all get a chance to do all 3 as the week moves progresses. We have also been setting up some reading playdates to help us plan out our reading time together with our partners. So, for a chunk of time in the morning we get to practice what we need to practice and take charge of our learning to really become avid readers. Here's what some of this looks like!
